Vinuela in the Axarquia region of Spain

Lake Vinuela is so called after the Andalucian village of Vinuela, three rivers were dammed to create this spectacular lake and reservoir.

The Hotel la Vinuela is right on the lake and is a marvellous setting for outdoor weddings and functions looking over the lake.

It’s possible to drive nearly all the way around the entire perimeter where there are picnic areas dotted here and there, some with barbecues, simply turn up with your charcoal and food and make a day out of it

Lake Vinuela in the Axarquia

The lake is around 25 mins from Villa Alta and 15 mins from the Coastal town of Torre del Mar. Fishing is allowed here however a licence is necessary but is easily and inexpensively obtained, It is well stocked with fish, in particular, Carp. Swimming and non motorized water sports are also permitted.

There are many sporting activities including Horse riding, Hang Gliding and Walking Tours etc, these are mainly offered by enterprising Brit's and other European Nationals who have come to settle in the area.

Around the lake there are a number of lovely villages which include Canillas de Aceituno, Alcaucin and Periana.

Whilst the area will always be the real Spain it also has an international flavour, in a small way due to the many settlers. There are banks, doctors, lawyers, dentists and shops selling British produce etc. there’s also a good choice of restaurants, even an Indian!!!
