One of Europe's largest cities, Madrid is located in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, it was founded by the Moors in the 9th Century.

Madrid is considered the major financial centre of the Iberian Peninsula, it hosts the head offices of the majority of major Spanish and international companies and is the headquarters of three of the world's 100 largest companies, Telefónica, Repsol-YPF and Banco Santander.

It is very cosmopolitan and modern and offers innumerable attractions to the visitor.

In the city center there is the historic Plaza Mayor, considered to be one of the finest in Spain which is surrounded by 17th century architecture.

The royal Palace is surrounded by gardens which are open to the public, a magnificent example of 18th century palatial art.

Madrid has many museums and art galleries, the Prado Museum is one of the world's finest art galleries, with its huge collection of Spanish, Flemish, and other European paintings.
