Granada
Granada is at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range which is a popular ski resort, it used to be a stronghold of the Nazeri Dynasty, the last great Moorish kingdom in Spain.
Here you have the fabulous Alhambra of Granada, a medieval palace, which is so popular bookings have to be made before you can enter where you will be taken on a guided tour, you need a full day to do this.
The walls and ceilings of the Alhambra's rooms are incredibly beautiful, it has graceful and harmonious courtyards.
The Albaicín is the old Arabic quarter located on the hill opposite the Alhambra.
It has cobble stoned streets and white washed houses, there are many squares and places to laze about and have a bite to eat. The Albaicín is really an oil painter's paradise, with a picture to be painted everywhere and almost always involving glimpses of the Alhambra.
If you visit a shop which sells the typical granadino pottery (white background with strong blue shapes) you will be sure to read the often quoted saing "Give him alms woman because there is nothing as bad as being blind in Granada".
Visit Mirador de San Nicolas and you will see what they meant.
