Cuenca
Located in a beautiful natural setting, the old town of Cuenca occupies a site between two river gorges.
Famous are the 15th Century hanging houses, that appear suspended over the cliffs edge! One of these houses the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art, the museum being one of the finest of its kind.
The city centre is presided over by a magnificent Gothic cathedral. To the east is the Serranía de Cuenca massif with it's scenic valleys, gorges, and waterfalls. Here there is also an interesting group of rock formations known as 'The Enchanted City' (Ciudad Encantada).
The city is clearly divided into two parts, the old and the new. The modern half mainly consists of modern residences with tower blocks and apartments. The old part is howeverone of the most wonderful cities in Spain and worthy of several days exploration.
